Veterans Day ceremony and band concert

Port Townsend, WA

Each year Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26 in Port Townsend, Wash., presents a Veterans Day ceremony to which the public is invited. Post Commander and Vietnam veteran Joe Carey leads the 11 a.m. ceremony. The 43-member Port Townsend Summer Band, directed by member Karl Bach, MUCS, U.S. Navy (ret.), presents a concert of patriotic music at 10:30 a.m., preceding the ceremony.

As in years past, we honor all veterans, present a Legionnaire of the Year Award, acknowledge members with 20 or more years of continuous membership and present the MIA Ceremony. This year we feature two speakers: a mother-daughter team of veterans, Marie McMichael and Rita Beebe, Sgt. 1st Class, U.S. Army (ret.).

Following the ceremony our Auxiliary serves a buffet luncheon to everyone attending the event. We have a packed hall of 200 people attending. Similarly, we present a Memorial Day ceremony each year.
