Cooler weather is here, and it won't get better. If you are outside, you will probably see snow and ice. You run the risk of heavy wind and frostbite from the freezing temperatures. These mean you DO NOT want to go outside. Since you need to stay indoors, you need to do something besides play games on a PC or iPad. Why not spend that time reading about some American history that you should find in history texts? Try reading very good books about the Vietnam War and all the infantrymen (grunts) went through every day for a year. The stories give you a good reason to give thanks for the freedom you have. The books with this story also make a good read for a book report at school. I strongly suggest two great books: All Expenses Paid Volumes 1 and 2. Both are available on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. They are also available as Kindle eBooks, which is the fastest, least expensive and easiest way to start reading. They also make great gifts for everyone, young and adult, veterans and non-veterans, for Dad, brother or anyone. I know you won't be disappointed.

In my book, volume 1, ISBN 9781929763924, of my duology, read how we became All-American Boys. We received a 'greeting' from Uncle Sam and were sent to basic training. We were trained to prepare for the combat infantry in Vietnam. We were given injections for various diseases, rigorous physical training, and were shown how to disassemble, clean and reassemble a rifle. Some of us were trained on other weapons; for instance, I was trained on an 81 mm mortar. After basic, we were sent to advanced infantry training, and finally we were supposed to be ready for combat in the rice paddies and jungles of Vietnam.

In volume 2, ISBN 9798985282047, I cover the last half of my tour. Living in the monsoon rain, the jungles and the rice paddies. Spending time with the South Vietnamese, especially the children. Then Tet '68, R&R in Sydney and finally allowed to go home.

Readers of 'All Expenses Paid' had great reviews for my well-written book. Here only a few of the hundreds:

This book fully describes what these young men did for us.
The author's description of war and what grunts endured is one of the best I've read. John Launer told it like it was.
This was the best description of the life of a grunt in Vietnam that I have ever read and I've read a lot of them.
