Murals of Honor

Montgomery, IN

Greetings,
My name is Israel Reyes. I am currently a member of the American Legion Post #121, in Washington, Indiana. In 2019, after 15 years of service, I was medically retired from the U.S. Army. During that time I was mobilized three times, including Iowa Flood Duty, deployments to Afghanistan, and Kuwait. After my final deployment I spent 2.5 years at the Warrior Transition Unit at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. I was medically retired in August of 2019 due to multiple injuries and PTSD.

During my time at the WTU, I attended art therapy, where I excelled. I was requested to paint murals and various art pieces for the 101st Airborne Div. and the WTU. Since then I have painted murals for the 82nd Airborne Div. at Fort Bragg, NC. Currently, I am developing a non-profit organization called, Murals of Honor. Murals of Honor supports Soldiers and their units with painted unit murals promoting Esprit Decor and Pride in their service. Additionally, I hope to have veterans or soldiers form their prospective units take part in painting each mural. All this is at no charge to the military units.

My goal is to have Veterans organizations support me as I raise the funds for Murals of Honor. Each Post can have a silent auction for a hand painted U.S. Flag, buy a large hand painted flag, or I can go to the Post, (at their request) and paint a mural. Proceeds go to Murals of Honor. I am hoping to have the American Legion join in helping promote Murals of Honor.
