Bristol Community College welcomes all community members to our Vets Town Halls. The first will be on Feb. 24, 2024, in New Bedford, MA, and the second will be on April 24, 2024, in Attleboro, MA. All are welcome to attend. Snacks will be provided. Please register in advance through the link provided below.
Veterans who served in any capacity are invited to stand and speak for up to ten minutes about what it was like to serve their country. The event is non-political and there will be no Q&A period. Attendees and non-veterans are encouraged to listen and learn about what it was like to serve this nation.
“We want veterans and non-veterans to share a space and experience together,” said Denny Cosmo, director of the Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center at Bristol Community College. “Building community and understanding is an essential part of reintegrating into society after military service. This is a great chance to do just that.”
“Veterans sharing their stories is like a strong thread that weaves our community closer together. It's not just for veterans; it's for everyone in our community," said Peter O'Brien, retired Marine Corps master gunnery sergeant and DOD SkillBridge Intern, Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center at Bristol Community College. “When veterans talk about their experiences, it helps all of us understand what they went through, the things they gave up and the values they hold dear.”
Vets Town Halls were originated by author Sebastian Junger, with the aim of increasing communication and understanding between veterans and civilians in their communities. The first event of this kind took place in Marblehead, Massachusetts, in 2015, and was led by U.S. Representative Seth Moulton. For more information, please visit www.vetstownhall.org/attend-events. Bristol Community College’s Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center serves as a single point of contact for all Bristol and Veterans Affairs materials, educational benefit certification, academic counseling, essential resources, opportunities for peer connections, and assistance with job preparation and placement services, including veteran-specific job fairs and recruitment activities.
