Dava Guerin and Kevin Ferris Announce new Book on Veterans and their Service and Companion Animals

Skyhorse Publishing will release “Vets and Pets: Veterans and Animals That Help Each Other Heal” in the fall of 2017

PHILADELPHIA, PA Oct. 18 - Animals and human beings share a special bond that has existed for thousands of years. For our nation’s veterans, who have returned from war with visible and invisible wounds, those animal/human relationships oftentimes are more profound. From service dogs that help wounded veterans perform everyday tasks most of us take for granted, and companion and therapy dogs that provide emotional support, to cats, horses, potbelly pigs and even birds of prey, these remarkable animals are enhancing the lives of veterans and giving them a reason to wake up every day.
Skyhorse Publishing in New York City signed a deal with Guerin and Ferris for a second book after the success of their first book, “Unbreakable Bonds: the Mighty Moms and Wounded Warriors of Walter Reed,” released on Nov. 14, 2014. In “Unbreakable Bonds” Guerin, from Berlin, Md., and Ferris, from West Chester, Pa., told the inspiring stories of 10 mothers and their severely wounded sons and daughter who were recuperating at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. The foreword was written by President George H. W. Bush.
“In ‘Vets and Pets,’ Guerin and Ferris continue their dramatic storytelling, this time focusing on veterans whose lives have been turned around by some of the most surprising animals,” said Lloyd Remick, an entertainment attorney and Guerin and Ferris’ longtime literary agent. “We know readers will enjoy not just getting to know these amazing vets from Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan, but also their pets, who have some interesting stories of their own. There will be some tears, but lots of laughs, too, and we are thrilled that Skyhorse Publishing continues to be our partner in this endeavor.” Remick added that the foreword will be written by Animal Planet star and expert dog trainer Andrea Arden.
