Bill Fadely enlisted me in the Air Force

Falling Waters, WV

Small world - the author of "the why don't you go to the head of the line" snippet from "Basic Training Memories" in the December 2016 issue of The American Legion Magazine caught my eye. Bill Fadely enlisted me in the Air Force in 1965. I had received my draft notice and had no desire to go into the Army (Vietnam and all), and it so happened he was in town that weekend and the next week we were on the way to Richmond, Va., for me to sign the AF enlistment papers (probably all was not above-board). Then it was off to San Antonio for basic training. Had I not known Bill I doubt I'd ever have gotten into the AF. Too, my life would not be what it is today - my wife is the sister of my roomy while stationed in the Philippines. Also, Bill's brother Bob was my baseball catcher at Central HS, Woodstock, Va.
