John J. Morris Post 62 Riders kick off Christmas toy drive

Peoria, AZ

On Saturday, Nov. 25, the Riders of John J. Morris Post 62 in Peoria, Ariz., kicked off their Christmas toy drive with a day full of activities. The Auxiliary started it off by providing breakfast for the riders following the opening prayer. A meal of pancakes, hash browns, bacon, sausage and eggs got everyone started prior to their ride. Everyone brought a new gift for the kids. Santa Claus thrilled the little ones in attendance (including those little at heart). There were silent auction items, plus lots of raffle prize items. The riders went to several other posts to visit before returning about four hours later to a meal of pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad and beans. There were over 100 riders involved. Following lunch were the raffle drawings, auction results and more activities. They will continue collecting toys for a few more weeks, which will go to needy families in the community as well as to families at Luke Air Force Base. We will cover their ride to deliver those toys next month.

They were colorful in their shirts.

Silent Auction items.

Lots of raffle items available.

Excitement growing before time for kickstands-up.

Great kickoff to collecting toys. The chest in back was filled to overcapacity.

No Christmas event is complete without Santa Claus, who rode the lead bike.
