Independence Day Parade with Cypress Bay H.S. JROTC Battalion

No home, plenty of heart

Nathan Bruckenthal-Adam Cann Memorial Post 385 - Pembroke Pines, FL

Well, 2017-2018 was another successful year. Boys State and Oratorical; numerous JROTC and School Medals awarded at four local high schools; Americanism Medals for cadets from the Fort Lauderdale Naval Sea Cadets Spruance Division and Pembroke Pines-Miramar Civil Air Patrol, and Good Citizenship Citations for BSA Troop 224 Eagle Scouts.
Over a thousand volunteer hours at the local VA, and book and magazine donations. We also supported and helped fund National Veterans Appreciation Day at the VA. This year it was Hooters Girls and 1,000 wings, the Florida Panthers Cheerleaders, and singer and actress Connie Francis in attendance.
We represented the Legion at the Pembroke Pines Veterans Day (photo in local newspaper) and Memorial Day functions, as well as the local Four Chaplains and 9/11 observances. We also marched in the Weston Independence Day parade, reported on the local news station, and placed wreaths during Wreaths Across America.
Post 385 took home 1st place in Americanism, Boy Scouts, Community Service, JROTC and School Medals, and was Post of the Year. Not bad for a post with no home and only a small, dedicated contingent of officers and members putting in the time and effort to make all the above happen.
I’ve visited posts with lovely buildings, a nice bar and a good functions area. Sometimes I wished we had that, but in the end, we’re getting the work done, and veterans, youth and the community are served just fine by us. That's why I love my post.
