American Legion Post 67 (Rincon, PR) honoring fallen veterans on Memorial Day

Rincón, Puerto Rico, OT

For many people, Memorial Day signifies a well-deserved day off to gather with family and friends. This privilege is enjoyed thanks to the sacrifices of men and women throughout many generations. Despite a very hot and humid day in Puerto Rico, and a perfect opportunity to enjoy the beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico, veterans chose to gather at American Legion Post 67 of Rincon on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who helped deliver us our freedom, some of which never had the chance to step off the battlefield.

Unlike years past, this Memorial Day looked a little bit different, as Post 67 commemorated the service and sacrifice of an American Legion member who passed away in 2019. Legionnaire Domingo Cordero, was a Korean War veteran who served with the 65th infantry Division of Puerto Rico. Mr. Cordero was one of the key Legionnaires directly responsible for the construction of the building for the new American Legion post in Rincon. Family members and friends gathered for the momentous opportunity to express their feelings and share memories lived with Mr. Cordero. His son Freddy Cordero was instrumental preparing the ceremony, allowing family members and friends a great experience and an opportunity to remember their loved one. Post members proceeded to the local cemetery to honor fallen veterans by placing the American flag for their service and sacrifice to our nation.
