According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, those who served are 57% more likely to commit suicide than non-veterans. The Arkansas VA is taking action. "They are a special population in that they have served their county, and then when they return sometimes there's difficulty transitioning back into civilian life. Sometimes they have difficulty regaining the supports they might have left, so there's just a number of factors that are more enhanced for veterans than for non-veterans," said Laura Watlinton, Suicide Prevention Program manager, Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.
