Hometown heroes

New London, OH

All those who served in World War II were heroes, but a few stick out as having endured more. We at Post 292 in the small community of New London, Ohio, have had the pleasure of having two survivors of the Bataan Death March join our ranks, Father Duffy and Bob Steele. We are fortunate to have many of Father Duffy's medals and other gear; and as for Bob Steele, we have drawings he made of his horrific experience in that march. We also had Cpl. Louis W. Smith return from a prisoner of war camp where he spent time after being captured in the Ardennes forest during the Battle of the Bulge. Their stories along with others will make up our Veterans Day celebration as we honor our vets and The American Legion.
