AL Post 572 member Tom Nurre completes the first 100 miles on Sept. 20, 2020.

The first 100-mile marker

San Angelo, TX

Biking has long been my preferred exercise. I registered for this 100 Miles for Hope program in August and am logging my biking miles representing our local American Legion Post 572. To keep an accurate record, I am using the free MapMyRide app on my GreatCall phone. This app uses a GPS tracking system that provides lots of information, including total miles, time, average times, elevation changes, etc. I fashioned a simple phone bracket on my handlebars and it all works out … perfect for this project. My bright-red 100 Miles for Hope shirt arrived earlier this week and I have been wearing it on my every-other-day rides. Today, I surpassed the first 100-mile marker with 106.93 total miles ridden to date.
I plan to continue logging my bike rides until Veterans Day … my goal is a total of 300 miles. Wish me luck.
Thanks to my granddaughter, Victoria van Tuil, for taking the attached photo after my 10-mile ride this morning.
