Learning to smoke

I joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1962 when I was 19. While out on the drill pad in excruciating heat at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, my drill sergeant, named Kelly, informed our flight that all those who smoked could take a break. I immediately borrowed a Pall Mall from a buddy and began my 25-year smoking career. I had never smoked prior to that day.
