Basic training

In boot camp, I remember we were awakened real early to take a test. It was 1960. The test turned out to be the Navy’s equivalent to an I.Q. They referred to this as the G.C.T. or “General Classification Test.”
I’ve since learned that the top score on this test was 74. The ‘average’ seemed to be somewhere around 45 or 48.
Everyone in boot camp ran around comparing scores. When they found that I had them beat by at least 20 points…they responded with “oh, is that what’s wrong with you?!”
