Town with roots as Army outpost supports Be the One campaign

Fort Gibson, OK

The oldest town in Oklahoma, Fort Gibson got its beginnings as a U.S. Army outpost in 1824, to keep the peace between tribes. It has come a long way to a small community that cares not just about its people, but its veterans and veterans across the United States.
On June 26, 2023, at 6 p.m. at a regular town hall meeting, the mayor and city council members put forth a proclamation that July 1 of each year would be known in the Town of Fort Gibson as Be the One Day, in following with the town's history and tradition of coming together for people in need and veterans alike. The Town Council voted the proclamation in unanimously. Following a reading of the proclamation by Mayor Tim Smith, a photo with over a dozen members of the local American Legion Post 20, Sons of The American Legion and Axillary members was taken with the council. The Town of Fort Gibson and its citizens have always and continue to show their support for the veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States. It does not matter if it's a BBQ sale, a dinner, a festival, bingo or getting behind an American Legion push to help end veteran suicide -the town and its leaders show their support.
