Veteran Assistance Program Woodyard

Local veterans supply needy veteran families with firewood to keep warm in the winter.

Yreka, CA

The Veteran Assistance Program in Siskiyou County, California, supplies 83 families of veterans with firewood to keep them warm during the long winter months. We are a 501C3 organization who depends on donations to keep our operation going. We have a 1992 Ford F-350 4x4 pickup to pull out dump trailer.
The firewood that we get comes from various waste streams. We separate the useable firewood from what is delivered and split it into piles of firewood so it can dry. Once it is dry, we deliver it to the homes of veterans.
We get our wood from the City of Yreka, tree trimmers, Cal Fire and private citizens.
We split, gather wood and deliver it five mornings a week. This work is done by retired veterans and retired law enforcement.

Think about starting something like this in your area. You won't believe the gratitude when you deliver to a veteran who is on oxygen and has a heart condition that won't allow them to do the work for themselves.
