Round Lake Post 1170 supports "Shop with a Cop"

Round Lake, IL

As part of The American Legion Children and Youth Program of Round Lake Post 1170, the post commander presented a donation from the officers and members of the Post to representatives of the local police department.

During the Post's Christmas Party on December 10, 2023, Post Commander Stephen L. Risley presented a donation to Commander H. Lepe and Officer N. Fuhrmann of the Round Lake Park Police Department. According to Commander Risley, "The Post has been supporting this program for years now and Membership voted to donate $1,000.00, again this year, to this most worthy local cause."

Commander Lepe said, "We are very grateful to have such generous partners in the community who aid us, making this program a success every year. With this donation we will be able to provide gifts to 50 children in our community. Our 'Shop with a Cop' event will be held on December 18, 2023, at the Murphy Elementary School, and our officers look forward to participating in this event every year. The program allows the children and youth of our community to see police officers as they really are; caring people who want to help."

Speaking with Commander A. Dynak of the Round Lake Park Police Department, she explained that “the kids gather at the school, meet the officers, play games, have something to eat and then ride with an officer to the store in a squad car. Often, the ride in the squad car is as exciting for the kids as the shopping trip.”

Officer N. Fuhrmann, Commander Stephen L. Risley and Commander H. Lepe meet at Post 1170's Christmas Party to present the Post’s donation to the Village of Round Lake Park Police Department “Shop with a Cop” program.
