Columbus (Ga.) Post 35 adopts 1st Bn SFAB

Columbus, GA

On Nov. 23, 2019, while the 1st Bn Security Forces Assistance Brigade out of Fort Benning, Ga., was holding its unit Thanksgiving dinner at the Charles S. Harrison Post 35 facility, the post adopted the Bn as its unit.

This was done in appreciation of the outstanding support we have received from the 1st Bn in our different activities, such as going in uniform with our Legion members to visit the veterans at the VA nursing home in Tuskegee. One of the veterans at the nursing home was brought to tears when the soldiers showed up, claiming he thought “the Army had forgotten about them.” They are also helping us with plans to make this post more family-friendly, just to name a few ways the Bn has helped.

As our adopted unit, we will act as a link for them and their family members when they deploy, by providing care packages for the soldiers and having activities for the family members that they can share with their loved ones via video links and photos.

We are looking forward to a long-lasting relationship with the 1st Bn SFAB.
