On January 28, 2011, The American Legion Family of the Department of Maryland participated in the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Maryland Special Olympics.
The group was lead into the frigid water of the Chesapeake Bay by [holding hands L to R] SAL Detachment Commander Tom Deal, ALA Department President Patti Lach & AL Department Commander Mike Mooney. The Legion Family raised over $20,000 for the special athletes in Maryland.
