American Legion Post 67 (Rincon, PR) on-site visit to veterans living alone

Rincon, Puerto Rico, OT

As the holidays and giving season approach, American Legion Post 67 (Rincon, PR) seizes this opportunity to reach out and support veterans as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifices and service. Post 67 has been engaged with the community for the past 30 months, identifying veterans' needs and where the post can make a difference. Donations made by Puerto Rico government leaders, using the post as a facilitator, helped select two veterans who needed a little company during the Christmas season and a reason to smile.

Thanks to the donations of Sen. Ada Garcia Montes, the post identified and delivered pork roast and a bag with all the seasoning needed to cook a traditional Christmas Puerto Rican dinner. Post 67 leadership continuously thrives in fulfilling the voids veterans and community members go through during Christmas, as limited budgets, isolation and difficulty with transportation can all add up to create a food shortage in the homes of elderly veterans. Toward that end, if we are really going to make a difference in any veteran’s Christmas, or whichever holiday’s celebrations, it all starts with showing kindness to our fellow veterans in a meaningful, intentional manner. An on-site visit for veterans who live alone and could use a friendly face and an active listener makes a huge difference. Post 67 is at the front line accomplishing this mission.
