Department of Texas 20th District hosts Texas Boys State Orientation

SANTONIO – (May 14, 2025) – The 20th District, Department of Texas, held orientation at Alamo Post 2 for more than 100 statesmen who will be attending Texas Boys State.

The statesmen from high schools throughout Bexar County will attend at the University of Texas at Austin June 8-13.

District Americanism Chairman Michael Knott of Post 2 opened the meeting and welcomed the statesmen and their parents.

“I congratulate you on being here and taking the initiative to find out what Texas Boys State is all about,” Knott said to the attendees. “Boys State can be a life-changing moment for each of you as you will be amongst a thousand other high school juniors from across the state.”

During the orientation, several Boys State alums gave testimonies and advice to the statesmen regarding the national and federalist parties, to include the numerous offices statesmen could campaign for.

“Texas Boys State are looking for leaders,” said Knott. “They are looking for young men to take charge and run for positions.”

Additionally, Knott thanked the parents for allowing their sons to attend Texas Boys State, and if any were veterans, he encouraged them to join The American Legion.

Texas Boys State is a weeklong program where students become a part of the operation of their local, county, and state government. Participants are exposed to the rights and privileges along with duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen.

Texas Boys State and Bluebonnet Girls State are among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students within Texas and the nation.
