The Post 62 honor guard has been busy this year honoring our veterans by:

Celebrating a veteran on the first of each month. Families contact the captain of the honor guard (HG) and give him the name and other information about their service. After the flag-raising, the colors are played by our HG. The flag is proudly set for the entire month, then a ceremony is held at the end of the month retiring the flag and the HG bugler sounds taps. The flag is then presented to a family member. A new veteran is then selected for the following month.

Retiring the flag. Individuals and businesses are encouraged to drop off their worn and tattered flag at American Legion Post 62 for retirement. Three times a year the HGs meets to burn the flags. All members are trained in the process required to retire the flag.

Some of the other duties of Post 62 HGs;
Honoring all veterans by attending their funerals/celebrations of life, flag folding and placed in frames;
Attending private events at schools to educate children and youth about the flag;
Pinning ceremonies;
Attending ceremonies for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Veterans Day and Armistice Day, just to name a few.

The HG meets bimonthly for training and updates on all upcoming ceremonies. These men and women are all volunteers and give with their hearts in order to remember the veterans and all who served, no matter which part of the service they served under.
