For the eighth year in a row, the Thomas M. Brady American Legion post along with Unit 45 of the Auxiliary, SAL and members of the Cherokee County Homeless Veteran program held their Breakfast with Santa that welcomed post veterans and their families, homeless veterans and low-income veterans with their families for the holidays on Dec. 6 at the post.
Over 300 were in attendance to share a traditional pancake breakfast with all the trimmings and some holiday cheer. Santa Claus came to spend time giving gifts to the children who attended as well as take photos with them. Santa just happens to be a former Navy veteran from Cherokee County who loves to do this every year.
As the event is open to all veterans in the area, we were pleased to sign up several veterans into the post.
The icing on the day was the presentation of an early Christmas gift to a veteran from Gainesville who was donated our 80th vehicle from our veteran vehicle donation program.
The program provided turkeys, food, winter coats and other items to the low-income veterans and their families, to include presents for the children as part of our "Adopt a Vet" program, which includes Breakfast with Santa.
