I served in the Army and Army National Guard from 1986 to 1992. Someone from our family served – Army or Navy – in every U.S. and colonial conflict since 1666, when my Massachusetts ancestor Philip Stanwood was noted as a senior sergeant in the Gloucester Regiment of Foot. I just carried on what others had done. Not a lot of stories to tell. I just served my turn like so many other Americans.
