The Post 13 Sauls-Bridges Hall of the American Legion hosted a flag retirement ceremony on Nov 22, 2025. It was a moment to share the respect due to our stars and stripes that have flown proudly over the local buildings here in the capital of Florida. Many spectators gathered to witness Post 13 members present a few chosen symbolic flags to the post commander, and then to place the flags onto the open flames of the retirement chamber. Close to 100 flags were opened up on tables for burning at the conclusion of the ceremony in honor of the flag, per U.S. Flag Code on disposal.

It was an important teaching opportunity to show the young as well as the older citizens that the flag of our great country is due respect and honor even when it's time to destroy it due to wear and tear. This is in keeping with the ideals expressed in our pillars of the American Legion.
