John J. Morris Post 62 honors Marine Leon Bialek, Bataan Death March survivor

Peoria, AZ

On June 1, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) honored Marine Leon Bialek as our Veteran of the Month. He was in World War II. He was captured at the fall of Corregidor in the Philippines and had to survive the Bataan Death March; he was liberated from captivity about three years later. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Prisoner of War Medal. After getting back to the United States and being discharged he was married and had three children. His daughter Denise was on hand at the event Monday, and you can see the pride in the family of the honored veteran. His flag will fly for the month of June and then come down July 1 and be presented back to the family. Godspeed and rest in peace, Marine!

Post Commander Bob Singer read the story of Bialek to the crowd in attendance.

Brochure distributed to everyone with his story.
