New seniors program in Alaska

Salcha, AK

Problem-solver. Caring. Spiritual. Giving. Sharing. Go-getter. Devoted. Volunteer. Mission-focused. Driven. Passionate. Ambitious. Forward-thinker. Helpful. Goal-oriented. Generous. Dedicated.

These are all adjectives I would use to describe the kind of person our post chaplain is.

A few months ago, he told me about a concern for our senior veterans, especially in Alaska. He commented that they are often shut in with limited mobility - especially during the winters - and desire connectivity with fellow veterans but often live on fixed incomes and don’t have disposable income to pay for post membership.

He came up with a plan for senior veterans (over 80) to be offered American Legion memberships, by which they’d have a reason to leave the house. They’d have the means to connect with other veterans. But membership is $55/year and his plan needed a funding source.

He partnered with @Uncharted Path LLC, a veteran-owned music industry organization in the Matsu-Valley area, and they agreed to sponsor senior veterans' memberships to ensure they have the ability to socialize with other Legionnaires!
We are so very grateful for the opportunity to partner with this organization. We are so excited to offer free memberships for senior veterans!

Thank you, CH Bill Pebbles! Thank you, @Jesse and Alisha James!
