Post 221 in Ridgefield, N.J., held a special luncheon honoring veterans and first responders. More than 200 guests attended throughout the event, including borough Mayor Hugo Jimenez and members of the council. Municipal workers and first responders were also in attendance as well as a multitude of veterans. Community restaurateurs donated food to the event. Commander Caonabe “Gunny” Reyes of Post 221 held a contingent of students in JROTC captivated with his strong but sincere message of commitment to the community. The borough had a surprise for Gunny - they found an old picture of a plaque dedicated to all the sons of Ridgefield who made the ultimate sacrifice in WWII. It’s back where it belongs. The picture was almost lost when the borough moved to a new location. It was found in basement storage but cleaned and returned to the post. It’s obvious the Gunny is doing everything right.
