The George F, Axt Memorial Fund Nurses Scholarship is an annual event that has just hit its 74th year. The event is headed by Joseph M. Lane American Legion Post 136 and Auxiliary Unit 136 of Lodi, N.J., and supported by the Bergen County American Legion. Post 136 Commander Fran Carrasco and Auxiliary President Margaret Frontera have been coordinating this event tirelessly for a number of years.
George F. Axt was a World War I veteran and civilian contractor for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a lifelong member of American Legion Post 78 in Englewood, N.J., where he served as commander.
Current Department of New Jersey Commander Tony Gladden, as well as many members from the state, county and local organizations, were in attendance.
In addition to a delicious dinner, there were tricky tray items to bid on for even more proceeds reached! 100% goes to the fund. it's a credit to the Americanism, Youth and Community pillars The American Legion strives to engage.
Carrasco and Frontera, you are both doing work that is so incredibly important, and believe me when I say you are so appreciated and respected. You both are guiding lights. Thank you.
