A Battlefield Cross is a symbolic memorial created on the battlefield at the base camp to honor a fallen solider. It consists of the soldier’s rifle with bayonet attached, planted firmly in the ground with the helmet resting on top, and dog tags hanging on the rifle. The fallen soldier’s boots are planted at the base.
This solemn tribute serves as an immediate battlefield memorial allowing fellow soldiers to pay their respects and honor at the site where their comrade made the ultimate sacrifice.
This project was initiated by Eagle Boy Scout Liam Volz with very generous help from many in our community: American Legion Post 272, NAM Knights of America, Danny Trivisonno, Rosario Rappa, Chris Feury, Barry and Tony Foschino, Quench Irrigation, Collin Machleder, Billy Falkenstern and Liam's dad Keith Vol.
