The Massachusetts American Legion Softball League celebrated a historic milestone on July 13, hosting its first-ever All-Star Game at Slater Field in Webster.
Now in just its third season, the league has experienced remarkable growth. What began in 2024 with four teams has expanded to eight teams and more than 120 student-athletes representing communities throughout Central Massachusetts.
The league was established through the vision of Massachusetts American Legion Softball Committee Chairman Jodie Pajak, who believed young women deserved the same opportunities American Legion Baseball has provided for generations. That vision became reality through the dedication of volunteers, coaches and local Legion posts committed to building the program.
In 2023, Mark McCue approached Sue Sears, president of the Leicester Girls Softball League, about starting a team for Cherry Valley Post 443. Cherry Valley became the league's first committed team. Sears then recruited Jessica Parker to serve as coach, and together they used their softball connections to help recruit additional communities and lay the foundation for the league's continued expansion. Today, both serve as committee liaisons, helping guide the program's continued success. In recognition of her dedication, Sears received the American Legion Department of Massachusetts Youth Programs Outstanding Service Award in June 2026.
The inaugural All-Star Game recognized 32 athletes selected by their coaches for their leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication and contributions during the 2026 season. Players represented Cherry Valley Post 443, Webster-Dudley Post 184, Charlton Post 391, Sturbridge Post 109, Northborough Post 234, Franklin Post 75, Framingham Post 117 and Worcester Post 435.
More than just an exhibition, the All-Star Game celebrated the growth of a program dedicated to leadership, character, teamwork and community service while providing young women with meaningful opportunities to compete under the proud tradition of The American Legion.
As the league continues to grow, the inaugural All-Star Game stands as another milestone in a program built on vision, volunteerism and a commitment to serving the next generation of student-athletes.
