"Destiny's Daughter" presented to local schools

Lugoff, SC

Lugoff, S.C.'s Larry Jeffers American Legion Post 195 presented on Thursday, Aug. 28, the book "Destiny's Daughter - The Life of Mary Edwards Walker, Maverick Suffragist, Doctor, and Medal of Honor Recipient" to the libraries of Lugoff-Elgin High and Middle schools and Leslie M. Stover Middle School. After a review and approval by the Kershaw County School District, the books were presented at Post 195's regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

“Destiny's Daughter” follows Mary Edwards Walker's life becoming one of America's first female physicians, serving under fire in the Civil War, her imprisonment at Castle Thunder, championing women's dress reform, lecturing on temperance, smoking and women's abuse, and even influencing changes to the Post Office.

Accepting the book for Lugoff-Elgin High School was librarian Anne Lemieux. Librarian Emily Baccomo accepted for Lugoff-Elgin Middle School, and the volume for Leslie M. Stover Middle School was accepted by librarian Leslie Bradley and principal Chantelle Zimmer.

Presenting the books for Post and Unit 195 were post 1st Vice Commander Kate Brock, Auxiliary President Glenda Baxley and Post Adjutant Ella Calvert.
