June 21 to be 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in Columbus, Ga.

Columbus, GA

In honor of the fearless women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, Columbus, Ga., Mayor Berry “Skip” Henderson III, along with Commander Lakesha Stinger, Senior Vice Commander Janet April and Adjutant Caprice Green of American Legion post 35, we thought it most appropriate to give honor and thanks to the valor of the women of the 6888th by naming a day in honor of them. This has also been made possible with the honorable assistance of Greg Smith, director of Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, where Romay Davis is laid to rest. The day named for the 6888th is the same day she passed away. Davis was a soldier of the Women’s Army Corps and served with the 6888th as a driver and mail sorter.
In conjunction with naming a day after the Battalion, Mayor Henderson has named June 21 as Romay Davis Memorial Remembrance Day and 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Netflix Honoring Day; and Sept. 13 as Tyler Perry Honoring Day.
The event will be held at Charles S. Harrison American Legion post 35 - located at 3361 N. Lumpkin Rd., Columbus, Ga. - on Saturday, June 21 from 11 am to 1 pm EST to present the proclamations. Members of the armed forces, veterans, American Legion members, servicemember families and the public are welcome to attend. It is a free event.
