A man from Brazil: snapshot of a Post 2 life member

Dunedin/Palm Harbor , FL

Post 2 in Brazil, Clay County, Indiana, presented this life membership card to World War II veteran George N. Craig in 1949. During the war he rose through the ranks to LTC, and was awarded by France, Russia and the United States for his combat leadership. Craig was a leader in many ways. He was the first World War II vet to be named national commander of The American Legion and went on to be elected governor of Indiana in 1953. Craig was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1955, characterized as one of President Eisenhower’s favorite young Republicans.
I met the charismatic former governor when I was a teenager. He loved the United States and was always the patriot. In our conversations he encouraged me to find a way to serve our country. I followed his guidance and ended up serving 42 years in the Department of Defense.

I would like assistance providing this life membership card an appropriate “home."
