Post Commander of Highland Park, IL Post 145

The Chicago Blackhawks honored Vietnam veteran and Silver Star recipient Army Captain Richard Lee during Military Appreciation Night, on November 16th, at the United Center in downtown Chicago.

Captain Lee, a 10-year member of The American Legion, has been serving as post commander of Highland Park, IL Post 145 for the past 4 and a half years.

At the beginning of the game, Captain Lee joined two other honorees on the ice for the singing of the national anthem by Blackhawk singer, Jim Cornelison. He later received a video tribute and live interview on the stadium's big screen jumbotron and participated in the "Shoot the Puck" competition.

"Shoot the Puck" gives a fan or celebrity three chances to score from center ice through one of three small 6-inch slots at the bottom of a barrier in front of the goal. If successful, they then have three chances to shoot towards the opposite goal with only one slot.

To see how Captain Lee's first time ever shooting a puck raised the roof at the United Center, Google: "Captain Richard Lee Blackhawks." It will put a smile on your face and make you proud to be an active member of The American Legion!
