I always wanted to be in the military, even from a young age. When it was time to get serious about it and sign up, I knew I didn't want the Air Force, because at the time they had a six-week basic training and that seemed too "weak." The Navy and water and boats didn't interest me. It came down to the Army and the Marines. I sent in two postcards, one for each branch from the poster in my high school bulletin board. The Army called first, and that is how I ended up in the Army! I think it may have had me enlisted by the time the Marines answered their post card.
I served six years with the Army and am now a member of American Legion Post 32 in Papillion, Neb.
