On Sept. 15, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) went to the Gardens of Sun City to visit with their veterans. The senior living center is very supportive of their veterans and just completed their new Wall of Honor. We have been going to this center for several months, and the veterans always look forward to the visit and the hourlong visit (prior to lunch time) seems to quickly disappear. This time was special because Operation Gratitude reached out to the center and donated "goody bags" for all the veterans, plus the construction improvements were completed and the Wall of Honor was back up. The gentlemen come from several branches of the military plus one Dutch Merchant Marine (his son served several years in the U.S. Navy). One topic discussed this day was how many family members each one had who served in the military. One guy has five children and grandchildren who served, so he had the extra-large smile. Post 62 does at least four different site visits each month right now. The high was 11 in March, but getting in regularly to these busy sites is always a challenge.
