American Legion , Post 62 Honor Guard, along with other squads of the American Legion,
turned out to honor Ira Hayes as a veteran of the month.
A 15 gun salute, raising of the flag in his honor, and playing the tap was just part of the
honoring. The flag will fly for the month of September. At the end of September, the captain of
the Honor Guard will present the folded flag to a family member.
Ira Hayes’ family came down from along with the Ira Hayes American legion post 84 members
to attend the honorary celebration of Ira Hayes. There was a fabulous turnout honoring Ira
Hayes; with a wonderful fanfare of the American Legion Riders leading the parade of attendees
to Post 62 in Peoria Az.
For those who aren’t familiar with Ira Hayes, he was an Native American from the Pima tribe,
Marine, and one of the six men who were raising the American flag in Iwo Jima during World
War II, on February 23,
