Honor Guard Retires More Than 1,000 American Flags

The honor guard from American Legion Post 62, along with a member from American Legion Post 40, was called upon in an emergency to retire more than 1,000 American flags.
Eleven honor guard members from Post 62 participated in this solemn event. Throughout the year, these worn, torn and tattered flags had been brought to the post for proper retirement by individuals and organizations throughout the community.
The flag retirement ceremony took more than six hours to complete, with all participants volunteering their time and service. It was a solemn privilege and a true tribute to properly retire these flags that had once waved so proudly in honor of our nation.
The honor guard members were honored to perform this important service and ensure that each flag received the respect and dignity it deserved.
