Members of Balaam Jones American Legion Post 510 “Buffalo Soldiers” joined veterans, military leaders, elected officials, business leaders and community representatives from across the Fort Polk region for the annual Fort Polk Progress Community Briefing and Military Appreciation Banquet in Leesville, La.

Hosted by the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, the event highlighted the continuing partnership between Fort Polk and the surrounding communities and provided updates on efforts to support the installation, soldiers, military families, veterans and future mission growth.

Fort Polk Progress Chairman Logan Morris provided an overview of the organization’s work during the past year. Updates were also presented by Sen. Mike Reese, Rep. Chuck Owen, Rep. Rodney Schamerhorn and representatives from the Roosevelt Group.

Maj. Gen. Jason A. Curl discussed ongoing projects at Fort Polk and emphasized the importance of the strong relationship between the installation and its surrounding communities.

The program also recognized outgoing Hornbeck Mayor and Fort Polk Progress board member Clarence Beebe for nearly 20 years of service to the organization.

For Post 510, participation in events such as this reflects the post’s continued commitment to supporting our military community, strengthening relationships with local leaders, and advocating for the soldiers, veterans and families who make the Fort Polk and central Louisiana community strong.
