Community seminar highlights fall prevention and scam awareness

Peoria, AZ

Dateline: Sept. 24, 2026 - John Morris American Legion Post 62

The chaplain of the honor guard, Dan Pressler, presented “Behind Closed Doors” at John Morris American Legion Post 62 to help community members reduce home hazards and prevent falls. Citing that the Sun City Fire Department responds to around 4,000 falls each year, Pressler shared practical strategies to make homes safer. He delivered a slide presentation and engaged in a Q&A with attendees.
Tony Biancardi, owner of Behind Closed Doors, was also in attendance to answer questions and provide additional insights.
Pressler then led a second presentation focused on avoiding scams that target older adults on a daily basis. The audience was highly interactive - asking questions and sharing personal experiences about scams they had encountered. Attendees left with actionable information and resources to help them reduce fall risks and protect themselves from fraud.
Highlights:
• Fall prevention: practical tips to remove obstacles and improve home safety
• Community engagement: robust Q&A and shared experiences
• Scam awareness: guidance on recognizing, avoiding and responding to common scams
