In my father's footsteps

Swainsboro, GA

My dad was a gunner's mate second class who served on USS Major DE 796 during World War II. He always talked about how he wanted to return to the South Pacific someday because of its people and its beauty.

After high school, I decided to follow in his footsteps and joined the Navy, serving on three ships on two coasts in six years during Vietnam. My three younger brothers also joined the Navy and served honorably, making my father proud.
