I chose the Army because of my ancestors, who served from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam. The Army taught me respect, obedience and self-reliance. It especially caused me to grow up fast! As a result of the volunteer draft in 1969, I ended up in the infantry and trained at Fort Knox, Fort Polk, and Fort Campbell. After around 14 months, I was promoted to Specialist 4th Class and retained that rank until my ETS (expiration term of service).
I firmly believe that everyone should serve in the military, even if only for a short time, as that would bring some respect back into our country. And everyone in this country of ours should revere the United States of America and the flag!
