Michael Brady of McSherrystown, Pa., was a Navy veteran of World War II. But seven of his 12 children with Anna Zartman Brady enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Michael Jr. was the first to serve – and one of two 'lifers' – with multiple tours of Vietnam in the 1960s. He was followed by Gordon, who deployed during his service to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; David (stateside service); Paul, who was lucky enough to be stationed in Hawaii; Martin – the other ‘lifer’ – was deployed during the Persian Gulf War and served with the Marine Security Battalion in Chile and Romania; Rich (stateside service); and Trina,who followed up their service in the Corps with the Air National Guard. When Martin was the last to leave the Corps in 1998, Anna received a letter of gratitude from Gen. Charles Krulak, 31st Commandant of the Marine Corps. Michael Sr. was a member of American Legion Post 14 of Hanover, Pa. David is a member of Post 791 in Shiloh (York), Pa.
