My Journey to Texas Boys State

San Antonio, TX

SAN ANTONIO – (July 26, 2025) – My journey with Texas Boys State began with the 20th District Texas Boys State Orientation held at Alamo American Legion Post 2 on May 14, where I had the opportunity to meet other students from the Bexar County area and learn about their interests prior to our journey to Austin. Talking with my peers created a lot of anticipation regarding Texas Boys State and the things we would be learning during the program.

As we boarded the bus on June 8, everyone was excited, talking about the things that they wanted to accomplish, the roles they wanted to play and the positions they would seek. I realize that many of us had some of the same hopes for elected offices, and we shared ideas about how we would achieve them.

As I worked to rally support for various positions, I realized that there was a lot of competition in terms of ideas and ways to support our community. When I lost my first campaign for office it was devastating, but my fellow statesmen rallied behind me. It was difficult! But it was also a fun process. Although the positions I fought hard to win were not successful, I am very appreciative of the opportunity to not only meet fellow Texas Boys State alums, but also to develop strategies to use within my high school as I support student government and share my ideas with others.

During Texas Boys State, I was able to grow my patience. Often as we attempted to convey our ideas to others, it was important to listen to others during their election speeches. We also had fun playing games, visiting the House and Senate chambers at the Capitol, and truly getting to know each other.

I hope the relationships I formed at Texas Boys State will last a lifetime. I am very grateful for the friendships I made as well as the opportunity to participate in the prestigious program. I now realize, more than before, how important this opportunity was and how special it was, gaining a new perspective about my state in a deeper appreciation. I am grateful for the time I have spent at Texas Boys State and the opportunity afforded to me by Fred Brock American Legion Post 828.
