On Jan. 8, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) presented their Americanism Award to Sunrise Mountain High School. The award for the Peoria business of the month is given to local businesses that supports veterans. Marine veteran and teacher DJ Salch has a class that does Imprints of Honor to recognize veterans in stories that eventually go into a book that is then placed in the Library of Congress! Beyond honoring veterans this way, they also do packages from home and Wreaths across America, among other projects. The school also goes monthly to the Olive Branch senior center to help seniors with technology, be it phones or computers or others. Students also assist in the food pantry providing food to the community. Sunrise Mountain High School certainly goes well above and beyond in serving the community and the veterans!
