I Answered My Country's Call
By Michael Haas
Perhaps it came by letter or post
Maybe I had a number drawn
Or saw a poster from our host
Never-the-less I answered thon
I carried myself the fear tucked in
I entered the storm clearly and tall
I did the job I was trained to begin
And I answered my Country's call
With the battles raging all around me
I lead or followed into the squall
I fought the battles to keep us free
And I answered my Country’s call
On land and sea I did my duty
I saw and lived in horrors thrall
In a time of fear with little beauty
I solely answered my Country’s call
When you think of me and remember
Know I did my best and gave it all
With open mind I was a service member
And now I answered the Almighty’s call
Shed a tear or cry for me if you must
Think of me winter, spring, summer or fall
Know I was guided by duty and trust
And willingly I answered my Country’s call
