Saturday was an incredible day for the American Legion Riders of Post 116 in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
They held their 2nd Annual Rev It Up for Colon Cancer Awareness Ride, and over 60 riders showed up ready to make a difference.
Even though it was a bit chilly and windy, the turnout was amazing. These folks came together not just for the ride, but to raise both money and important awareness for colon cancer.
The group kicked things off at Tobacco Road Harley-Davidson, made fun stops along the way at Shakey Rays, Garden State Grill, and finished back at Post 116 with a great meal.
By the end of the day, they had blown past last year’s total of $2,800 and raised over $4,000 for the Colon Cancer Coalition. That’s real impact!
This special ride was started last year by Riders Director Chris Stocker after losing his brother-in-law to colon cancer. Just weeks later, another Rider lost her brother to the same disease. Both men were younger than 50 when they were diagnosed.
That heartbreaking loss is what drives this ride ... to spread the message that early screening saves lives.
After the ride, as everyone was talking and sharing, one Rider said something that made it all worthwhile to another member: “I’m going to talk to my doctor. This has been the most impactful conversation I’ve had with anybody tonight.”
That, right there, is exactly why these events matter. One conversation. One decision to get screened. One life that might be saved.
Huge thanks to everyone who rode, volunteered and supported this cause. Your hearts and horsepower made a real difference.
