A community's promise to our troops and their families: you are never alone

The Colony, TX

Commander Mary Garcia of Holley-Riddle Post 21 in The Colony, Texas, had a vision. As she watched uncertainty unfold around the world and listened to parents concerned for loved ones serving overseas, she felt called to bring the community together in prayer, hope and unity. That vision became reality on June 16 as the Healing Hearts Community Prayer Vigil touched the hearts of all who attended. What began as a gathering of individuals quickly became a community united by faith, hope and love. Together, participants lifted up our active-duty military, veterans, military families, neighbors and our nation in prayer. They arrived as strangers but left connected, reminded that no one walks this journey alone.
Pastor Dono Pelham beautifully tied the evening together, reminding everyone that God's presence is revealed when His people gather in faith: “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
Stephanie Manchen, president of Blue Star Mothers of America-Yellow Rose TX20, spoke from the heart as the mother of a son serving on active duty. She recalled watching him leave for boot camp. “I was extraordinarily proud yet had a knot in my stomach as I watched him walk away,” she shared. “This was the first of many goodbyes ... these are the sacrifices Blue Star Families make for our country.”
Post 21 Legionnaire Chastity Hamer shared that the 50 care packages assembled by Post 21 and the Blue Star Mothers had recently reached her son and fellow sailors aboard his Navy ship. More than snacks and supplies, the packages delivered encouragement and a reminder that an entire community stands behind them.
Army Reserve 1st Sgt. Anna Ma reflected on receiving prayers, letters and homemade cookies from strangers during her early years of service as a young soldier. Today, she sees firsthand how community support reassures soldiers that they are not forgotten.
The evening was made possible through the partnership of Post 21, Blue Star Mothers, Life Changing Faith Fellowship Christian Church and the Sarah Kincaid Cook Chapter, NSDAR, along with volunteers from Post 21, SAL Squadron 21, Scout Troop 226 and the Young Men's Service League.
The Healing Hearts Prayer Vigil demonstrated what makes The Colony such a special community. We do more than honor our heroes with words - we surround them and their families with love, prayer, compassion and unwavering support.
