What an absolutely historic day for our post! We had the distinct honor of coming together to celebrate a true American hero, Legionnaire Marvin Geerts, marking an astounding 80 years of continuous membership with The American Legion. To make the day even more historic, Marvin also celebrated his landmark 100th birthday!

Our very own Commander Zuidema had the ultimate privilege of presenting Marvin with his official 80-year membership certificate, honoring a lifetime of dedication, loyalty and service that stands as a profound inspiration to us all.

During this incredible milestone ceremony, Marvin was showered with well-deserved recognitions from a grateful community:

• An official 80-Year Membership Certificate presented by Zuidema
• A beautiful shadow box featuring an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in Marvin's honor
• A stunning Quilt of Valor from the Illinois Valley Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation
• A 100th Birthday Certificate and a special challenge coin from the Illinois American Legion District 13 commander
• Official certificates of appreciation from State Rep. Ryan Spain and State Sen. Li Arellano Jr., who graciously joined us to present the honor in person
• A commemorative challenge coin from the I-80 Flags of Freedom committee
